Wallbox Pulsar Plus: Ideal EV Charging for Multi-Unit Communities

With adoption of electric vehicles still in its early stages, many EV owners and property managers are relying on installers and industry experts to help guide them through understanding all the ins and outs of electrification. Each installation carries unique requirements that may or may not be relevant to the next installation, so having the right installation and charging partners is critical to success.

The Challenge

The Borghese Condominium Association in Atlanta, Georgia was in need of just this kind of expert help. The HOA wanted to take advantage of the Georgia Power Make Ready program to assist with the EV charging installation and bring EV charging to their community. But like many other HOAs across the country, they were unfamiliar with the requirements that can complicate a process that doesn’t need to be complicated.

Multi-unit installations are unique and have different requirements that require finding the right charging and energy management solution.

The Solution

Community Management Associates (CMA), which works with the Borghese Condominium Association and manages more than 1,100 associations nationwide, had previously engaged Sona Energy Solutions on a separate CMA-managed property, so they had the right installation partner selected. Based on the requirements for the Borghese HOA installation, Sona recommended Wallbox as the right charging solution.

“Having installed Wallbox chargers at other properties, we were familiar with the functionality and versatility of the Wallbox Pulsar Plus and so we identified Wallbox as the right solution for this project,” said Chris Kaiser, Sona Energy Solutions’ VP of Business Operations.

Of special interest was the ease with which Pulsar Plus allows the HOA to easily monitor resident energy consumption and bill usage to each resident using the chargers. Also, as the wireless signal in the parking area is not always strong, they liked the fact that user data can be synced via Bluetooth to each user’s mobile device and then to the main HOA account via the cloud. With this added connectivity, the HOA is able to track, report, and bill resident usage without adding a complicated or expensive charger management service.

The Result

After Georgia Power installed EV infrastructure under their EV Make Ready Program, Sona Energy installed three Pulsar Plus chargers, with an option to expand the network to 13 total parking spaces. EV driving residents are now able to take advantage of convenient charging at the community and the Borghese Condominium Association is able to track and manage the chargers users without expensive upgrades or services.

With both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, the Wallbox Pulsar Plus offers greater flexibility for managing charger use and tracking charger data, including energy consumption.

“Given all the variables around bringing EV charging to multi-unit communities, including cost, convenience, and access to network connectivity, the Wallbox Pulsar Plus provides an ideal solution for virtually any community installation,” said Chris Kaiser. “No other charger brand currently on the market is as convenient or versatile as Wallbox.”
